Happy belated birthday, this was a beautiful piece. I went swimming in the winter with my mom for the first time ever a few weeks ago, and have been thinking not just about the experience of the cold sea but also sharing it with someone ever since. Somehow, magically perhaps, you so often make me feel some sort of emotional resonance with my mother. Such a gift.

Thank you so much, Karmela! This means so much to me! And happy birthday to you too!

Happiest of Birthdays Cameron! I hope you had a glorious day...perhaps with a miracle or two? I love the photo of your wee ones - a light and a shadow chaser! And talking of miracles....Judgement is my card for 2026 and I could do with one! I'd love a card on where I should be seeking one - what area of life will I 'Tolle et ambula'? Thank you x

Hi Mel,

Thank you so much! Judgement was the card I drew for this year, too <3

The Thoth decks offers you a miracle or two in the form of the Four of Disks, Lord of Power. The card shows a striking orange background that supports what could either be a strange lego-made car or a four-cornered castle fortress. At the bottom and top of the card, triangles lead the way into the fortress' inner sanctum. The card is all wonky perspectives and defined lines. There's an incredible sense of protection and presence here. What is the card protecting? What presence offers you power? Who is inside the fortress and what miracle happens in there when the gates are drawn shut against the orange world?

As your guide for the next two weeks, this card focuses you on the last ten degrees of your Capricorn Third House. Something about your realm of neighborhood, close friends, and communications that has been a source of anxiety, shut-down, gripping, and fear turns around for you during this lunation. After a long period of holding yourself in rigid formation, this does feel like a miracle. How did it happen? Did you surrender your own rigid stance? Did they? What does this unexpected change teach you about power and its relationship to love? About love and its relationship to surrender?

As Mercy in Action, the Four of Disks is at its best when the fortress doors open, when the sunlight becomes the focus instead of the walls surrounding. This is not a masochistic or exhausted or world-weary acquiescence to something that doesn't deserve your mercy. This is an opportunity for you to shine forth from that inner, secret place inside of yourself; that place where you know what is right, no matter what society says, no matter what anyone says, really. It's not about saying and, paradoxically, mercy in action isn't quite about doing either. It's about a special kind of allowance, a keeping your eyes open and discerning, while saying "yes" to thing you thought you might never be able to bear. In the process, perhaps others learn to offer back to you what they've for too long refused. This is the Third House of the Goddess, after all. And she rules with Mercy, her own special and loving kind of judgment.

Sending love!!!

Judgement sisters ha! There is no going back! Thank you for this insight around 4 Disks (I shall never be able to unsee the Lego car lol) - so many synchronicities around boundaries & self worth and much for me to contemplate! In the spirit of this lunation I am attending an IRL creative writing workshop on origins of unheard or misunderstood voices...this community interaction is huge for me and I shall bring 4 Disks as my talisman! Always sending love right back at ya xx

Thank you Cameron, a beautiful post and photo. Happy new moon and happy birthday. I’m Sagittarius rising, my question is, I’m leaving my job and trying to write. How do I begin?

Cameron Steele's avatar

Hi Nell,

Thank you so much, and, my goodness, all the best wishes as you embark on this new journey!

The Thoth tarot has answered with the Seven of Cups, which is to say, first and foremost: Make sure you have a beautiful space that will allow you to go deep and hard into your own aloneness, into your own imagination, into your own frightful and lovely flights of fancy and attempts to capture such fancy on the page.

The Seven of Cups is the Lord of Debauch and in the Thoth deck, Lady Frieda Harris has depicted seven lotus flowers in the shape of a cup or a pair of fallopian tubes, dripping with water, green slime, and mystery. The colors are all strange greens and blues, and this card, as Venus in Scorpio, points to the sludge of fear and paralysis we sometimes have to move through in order to bring our artistic dreams to life. This card is associated with the middle decan of your Twelfth House of solitude, dreams, and anything that happens at the margins of society, day consciousness, and life in general. It's from this mysterious sublunary realm that you will draw both inspiration and frustration, where you will test yourself against the promises and limitations of your desire.

You begin with the sludge. In solitude, alone, surrounded by whatever is that you consider to be a beautiful companion while you work, you begin to write even when the writing seems hard, bad, scary, and stupid. You write not worrying about whether it's making sense. You write, undergirded by the fear that nothing makes sense. You write with an eye toward capturing everything, all of the images, stories, insights, and questions that come into the mind. You write betting on the providence of your own mind, even when you're worried that everything in your mind is delusion.

The Seven of Cups is the card of the artist, the card of the walk of shame, only insofar that shame is something that society calls an attempt at walking a true path. Good for you! This is Venus in Scorpio, the power of Love and Beauty in the fixed realm of passion and emotion. This is the cut flower, the understanding that beauty is the most important thing, even in the face of its certain death. As Victory in Creation, this card says you begin with the sense that you create your own success. You define it, at every step of the way, even when success feels like failure.

Sending so many well wishes!!

Lovely post (and thank you for the picture). Leo rising. On the subject of healing: I’ve been foggy headed this new year, maybe just because I’m processing the news so hard, but I’m wondering what might be the path to getting my brain back.

Hi Lesley,

In answer to your question and as your guide over the next two weeks, I drew the Thoth Ace of Disks. This is without reservation one of my very favorite cards. In the words of my friend Meg, who is also a tarot reader, this card always feels "gentle and promising." The Thoth image depicts a golden brown disk set against a backdrop of emerald and light greens. The disk has sprouted wings, as if it might be a scarab or moth, some sort of bug in the moment of transformation into winged creature.

As Root Power of Earth, this card confers inspiration, action, and the imaginal flight of mind in the earth areas of your chart--your second house of resources and "stuff you consider your own," your sixth house of day-to-day work and health routines, and your tenth house of public life, career, and overall life direction. The path to recovering clarity of mind begins, unromantically, maybe, in these houses of work, money, and health. There's a seed being planted here, maybe a new recognition, maybe the need to reconfigure your schedule so that your creative spirit is better aligned with what you are quite literally paid to do, maybe the desire to be beloved, adored for your artistry, beautiful words, good work (That tenth house in Taurus is ruled by a first-house Venus in Leo who, whatever the anxieties, really truly loves bringing something beautiful into the world and being known for it!)

More poetically, the Ace of Disks is a seed, a gift of inspiration materialized in the world and delivered forthrightly into your open hands. What do you do with a seed in winter? What kind of seed is this? Where does it come from? How can you take from the realm of "blind impulse" into aesthetic action? Perhaps the realm of foggy brains and headaches is a good place to start. The Ace of Disks is "Crown in Action," and there's something here about allowing one's problems to point the way forward. Can you go deeper into the hurt and the ill feeling until it opens up for you, until it renders you, the artist, in the words of Crowley, “the chosen priest and apostle of infinite space?"

Belated thanks! Thinking hard about this. And adoration: yes please.
