Oh, and no rush, but Capricorn rising and really would love some guidance on how to approach the career/finance shifts/expansions I am working to step into.....

Cameron Steele's avatar

Oh, Raechel!!! I drew one of my very favorite cards ever for you as your guide throughout eclipse season!

The Thoth Ace of Cups is Root Power of Water and it calls forth the gift of flow, ease, and mutual inspiration in the water houses of your chart—your Pisces Third House of community, short-form writing and communication (think newsletters, workshops, blogging, poetry), your Cancer Seventh House of one-on-one partnerships (the embodied other, think one-on-one work but also romantic relationships), and your Scorpio Eleventh House of hopes and dreams, professional networks and audience. Esoterically, if you’re interested, these houses are the House of the Goddess, the House of the Other, and the House of your Agathosdaimon, your good spirit, your Holy Guardian Angel. The cups are the suit of the emotional world, but they are also the suit of the creative world, and as water, governing flow, they represent the ideal way for money to exist in this world.

The Ace of Cups has a long cartomantic history of being a gift given to you from the spirit world. It is love, true love, unconditional love, and there is something about that sense of a gift “being freely given” that supports you as you make shifts through these times. The Ace of Cups lies beyond the opposites of risk/reward and effort/payment and instead lies in a realm very much beyond that. What is that realm to you? How does it connect with what you are moving through, offering to others, and desiring for yourself, too?

I love Lady Freida Harris’ depiction of the Ace of Cups, because her triumphant water looks like a web. I think of interconnectedness, Inanna’s net, Aphrodite’s girdle, and what these mythic queens of beauty have to say to us about how we’re drawn together. Sending love!

Thank you!!!! I kind of can't believe it!

Whew. I'm so excited to read your book Cameron, and appreciate the spiritual depth you offer the reader in everything you write. Such a gift! Will there be a workbook version?

My rising sign is Pisces and my question is, what is the best use of my (very.limited) energy going forward spiritually/creatively?

Cameron Steele's avatar

Hi Sarah,

Thank you so much! Do you mean a workbook version of the Major Arcana course? I hadn't considered until just this moment! It would be easy enough to do ... but let me think about it and I'll get back to you.

Your guide for eclipse season is the Queen of Cups. I just spoke to the embodied version of this queen in my life recently (I wrote an essay about her on the newsletter, you can find it in the archives!) This is love of love, water of water, Understanding in Creation. She offers you the power and force of spiritual and creative understanding that comes from solitary creative concentration and effort. She is the queen of first drafts come right, of meditations that go deep on the first try. She is motivated by the sense of making a choice that limits all other options in your fourth house of private life and home, and from this definitive choice she launches into creative and spiritual practice that is very much tied to your fifth house of pleasure, creativity, romance, and joy. This Queen understands the sting of "doing too much too fast," and the ruin of urgency. She is slow, contemplative, and unapologetic about the quiet, time, and space she needs to do good work. Paradoxically, once she has it, she finds she doesn't need half so much time and space as she thought she did. And so with her extra time, she often finds herself acting an elder to others, reflecting back to them the wisdom they already carry in their hearts. There is something here, too, about being inspired by children and contact with children, whether your own or in the community at large. She offers you the watery insights and embodiment that you're already well used to, a nice temper on all the fire of our age. Sending love!

Cameron, I echo Sarah's wonderful suggestion of a workbook of your Major arcana course! I would love this!

Sarah Stockton's avatar

Thank you Cameron! I need Her in my life right now, and will pull some of my favorite Queens from my favorite decks to contemplate, guided by your insights.

Yes, I was thinking of a digital workbook from your arcana class that people could pay for online and download who weren't able to attend, but also perhaps something to think about as an accompaniment for your new book? But then I LOVE a good prompt to generate writing and your work is always so fruitful for further writing/reflection. I'm sure that's true of many, not just me. Love back to you!

Congratulations!!! The Book is coming! Love a day full of good news

Thank you so much!!

Karmela Padavic Callaghan's avatar

Ah, congratulations on the book! It will be such a gift to have your writing in that form, I can't wait to read it.

Still turning over "death of consensus reality," in my mind, it is such a powerful phrase. Feels like artists, scientists and magicians alike, but also differently, are always after that.

Cameron Steele's avatar

Thank you so much, Karmela! I really can't wait to read your book--and SO soon--too! I have a feeling we'll have some idea that are in wonderful conversation ... wishing you well!

Brilliant news on the book! I’ll be adding that to my ‘to read’ pile as soon as it’s available.

I’ve been struggling a bit with my day-to-day at the moment. It’d be great to get some guidance on how to navigate a period of stuck-ness. My rising sign is Libra. Thank you.

Cameron Steele's avatar

Thank you so, so much!!

The Thoth Ace of Disks turned up as your guide during this eclipse season. You might scroll up to Raechel and Martha's readings above--they've got the Ace of Cups and the Ace of Swords, so there's a quality to the Aces and what they offer as guides that you'll find applies to you too. Needless to say, I love the Aces. They are "root powers," or true, unadulterated gifts from the divine/the cosmos, however you make contact with that creative force of love moving through and behind reality.

The Ace of Disks is "root powers of earth" and it offers you a seed--a new offer of creativity and "concentration without effort"--in the houses of solitude, private life, and contemplation in your chart. Pulling focus on the Fourth House of home, ancestors and family (who you are in private, your relationship to the lineage that brought you here), your Eighth House of other people's stuff, the occult, and inheritance (death and magic), and your Twelfth House of hidden realms, spiritual realms, and the margins of society (think dreams, and the liminal spaces where consensus reality can't or doesn't hold), the Ace of Disks offers you a new, earthy start. There's something about allowing yourself to go deeper into who and what you are when you are alone, to take the stuff or baggage that you've been given by other people or entities, and to use your dreams and contact with more esoteric and intuitive ways of knowing and feeling to fashion something new, a creative effort, project, or manifestation all your own. There's a clarity of action and behavior with this disks card--it has a singular focus and a lightness of being that many of the other earthy cards in the deck don't carry. Perhaps some of the stuck-ness comes from the hugeness of the task of briniging something into physical being that, currently, exists only in the imaginal? The Ace of Disks offer you the silent faith in your own vision, and the time, space, and resources to pull it down into manifestation, bit by bit, however slowly you need to go. Work with your ancestors, turning toward your beloved dead may also be of benefit at this time, as would be keeping a dream journal or journaling explicitly on your own questions about and relations to spirituality, the occult, and the power of your own mind.

Sending love!

Yay for all the good news, so happy for you!

I’m grateful that others will have the opportunity to experience aha moments through their writing with your guidance, just like I did. You are amazing!

Thinking about you and Kiernan.

Cameron Steele's avatar

Thank you so much, Margarita!! It means a lot coming from you! And thanks for the well wishes, too!

A book deal & a program expansion!!! I am so happy & excited for (and with) you Cameron! Can't wait to hold your book in my hands and dive in. I so enjoyed reading this post as it expressed in so many ways my relationship with tarot too.....plus I almost spat out my morning tea in laughter with your eloquent description of self as a 'deceitful loser' lol ! Also, I await your Crowley essay with bated breath!

Please know I am thinking of you all and sending love as you await your husband, Kiernan's test results.

A card for eclipse would be wonderful! (My last card from you, 'Power' was indeed a powerful talisman for that time and allowed me to fling open my fortress doors, thank you.) Scorpio rising, after an unexpected & shocking bleed this month, after thinking menopause was finally complete, what is the best way to approach this continuing transition?

Cameron Steele's avatar

Hi Mel,

Have you ever had the sensation of knowing what card you were going to turn over before it showed up? I had that feeling this morning drawing for you--an image of the Thoth Queen of Disks floated into my mind and, indeed, she's who has turned up as your guide throughout eclipse season. This is the Queen of "magick hiding in plain sight" and she appears when "nothing is hidden," when there are no secret rituals to do or mantras to murmur, when "ceremonial magick" happens every time you open your eyes and attend to your life as if each instance means something, each movement is a sign, each appearance or occurrence points you to the deeper, wonderful, immense, chaotic meaning that simply is. As Understanding in Action, this queen offers an ability to grasp concepts, transformations, and knowledge through a participatory understanding. She advises keeping a journal with you and jotting down stray thoughts or lines or even just words that come to you--from conversation, from street signs, from good books you're reading but maybe not that really into except for the feel of them in your hands. That's ok! This Queen says you don't have to go too deep to find the joy and love of life, particularly the joy and love of your own life. As Water of Earth, she offers the powerful (sometimes dangerous) thaw of ice before spring proper. She is muddy, deep in the forest, comfortable with sitting through change without having to do too much to "fix anything." Indeed her beautiful antlered crown in the Thoth deck shows that she can't actually move about too hastily--she'd knock off her adornments and just make more of a mess for herself. That said, she is motivated by the understanding that doing things takes time (she contains the last ten degrees of Sagittarius, the Ten of Wands/Oppression), which means that she is good at juggling, albeit slowly (Two of Disks/Change) so that she can participate in building something beautiful (Three of Disks/Works). She pulls focus on your Second House of self-worth/income/value system (esoterically the House of the Gates of the Underworld) and your Third House of neighborhood/siblings/community/close friends (esoterically the House of the Goddess). There's magick hidden in plain sight in these areas for you--as you consider the multivalence of menopause, the back-and-forth flow of it, how can you allow this Queen to show you how to show up for yourself, your beloveds, and your values at this time?

Sending love!

Thank you Cameron - a deep & nourishing read. No, I am not surprised to see this Queen….we keep bumping into each other, don’t we?! What you have written makes so much sense to me, thank you again. x

Cameron Steele's avatar

Thank you so much, Mel! Haha the deceitful loser bit took a minute to work out how to express, so I appreciate that it landed … I overestimated the free time I would have last night and this morning. I will be back either this evening or tomorrow with your reading!

I’m so happy for you!!! You deserve ALL THE GOOD THINGS. I cannot wait to read your book.

Whenever you have time … Aries rising, seeking guidance on how to push through with my own book, in the face of fatigue and all flavors of over commitment.

Cameron Steele's avatar

Hi Martha! haha, I just wrote up the Ace of Cups that turned up for Raechel in response to her question, and for you I’ve got the Ace of Swords! It is a “root power” and “you’ve got exactly what you need!” kind of day.

I love the Ace of Swords as guide in general but I love it even more in response to this question. Lady Frieda Harris’ card shows a green sword ablaze in triumphant yellow and silver light, atop a dark blue landscape of starry clouds. This is the Root Power of Air, the freely given gift of the intellect or the mind to create, shape, and form the project that you deserve. The Ace can be used as a swift, easy, and easily heard “no” to the things in your life that are distracting you from your heart’s true desire, from time to write and think hard, lovely, important thoughts about your book. It can also be used as the state of flow that happens when you get into the writing process itself. It honors you with that flow if you create the time and space for the writing to happen. Do all the flavors of commitment need to actually happen? If you’re tired, could it be because you’re expending energy on things that you’re telling yourself you should be doing, but that are actually depleting your Logos from showing up in the world in a way that could affect change as well as revivify your participation in your life? What is your relationship to the Logos, to the Word, as such, and your honor and ability, as a writer, to tap into it?

Astrologically, the Ace of Swords offers clarity, precision, and flow in the Air houses of your chart, your Gemini Third House of short-form writing and communication, your Libra Seventh House of one-on-one partnerships, and your Aquarius Eleventh House of professional networks and audience. Esoterically speaking, these are the houses of the Goddess, the Other, and your Good Spirit/Holy Guardian Angel. How can you accept the gift or the challenge-as-gift of freely circulating air in these areas of your life? the Ace of Swords offer it!

Sending love!

Martha Bayne's avatar

I love this and I love visualizing the creative flow as a flow of air, and thinking about ways to get the air circulating more freely. THANK YOU.

Cameron Steele's avatar

Thank you, Martha!! So much of the writing happened alongside you! I’ll be back in the morning with your reading!!

HOORAY—I’m so glad to hear about the teaching and the book!! Fantastic news. Wishing your spouse all good things. If you have time, Leo rising: is there anything I can do to help my son through a difficult time?

Cameron Steele's avatar

Thank you, Lesley!! I almost texted you about the book, but then I got totally overwhelmed and needed a few weeks to process, haha.

I'm sorry to hear your son is going through a hard time! I have only the best wishes and utmost empathy for you there.

I also really love your guide for this, which is the Thoth "Art" card, or Temperance in other decks. This is the Major that rules your fifth house of creativity and children, specifically. In Lady Frieda Harris' version, the card shows a two-faced angel in a green dress, mixing a fiery potion tended (being drunk?) by a white lion and a red eagle. This is the Major associated with the Holy Guardian Angel, with Art as a process of healing and union, with the strange, magical, and alchemical process of creation as the purpose of life. In your fifth house, this card offers you the ability to comfort your son through art, through your love of art, and through the ways in which you yourself have learned that anger and anxiety or depression and a sense of "what is the point?" can be tended to through choosing to trust even the smallest whiffs of inspiration. Temperance is associated with Hebrew Letter "samekh," tent peg, or anger, which also brings to mind the way the fire of maternal feeling can be used to erect a structure of support, stability, shelter, and comfort. The image also just brings to mind the presence of someone who knows how to use the just-right concoction of a good meal, a steadiness of being, good lighting, and a golden feeling that "everything will be ok even when it is not ok" to work magic on someone who is suffering. It reminds me of the idea that rests behind Mary Ainsworth's attachment theory (written about beautifully by Bethany Saltman in her book The Strange Situation) that what our kids need from us, most of all, is that mysterious sense that we delight in them, even in their darkest hours. This card's appearance is also a reminder to you that you've always got your own angel to call on, too, in times of need and that tears, even when they feel silly or useless, are expressions of emotional intensity that work spiritual and creative magic, draw us nearer to a sense of healing for ourselves and our loved ones.

Also, I used your book Unbecoming as an example of the perfect book for the Lovers card!!

Wishing all the best for you and your son.

Wheeler, Lesley's avatar

That does seem like the perfect card for the moment—I’m on my way to see him now and will keep it in mind. And how wonderful about Unbecoming—thank you!!
