Welcome(-ish) eclipse season with Sarah Manguso's LIARS, Miranda July's ALL FOURS, the Ace of Pentacles, and the reversed Wheel of Fortune.

The discourse around Sarah Manguso’s Liars and Miranda July’s All Fours had me primed to detest both books.

I am, admittedly, a bit tired and bored of the plethora of divorce narratives that have been deemed publishing gold over the last few years. Or at least I’m tired of these narratives written in the self-congratulatory, vengeful register of a particular kind of writer: usually white, cisgendered, with some-to-considerable access to money, property, and bourgeois professional acclaim, even if those latter are accorded to them only belatedly, through the mechanics of the divorce or separation process itself.
